Discover everything that Pontefract has to offer by exploring the tabs below.

Which Enclosure?

There are 3 different areas or ‘Enclosures’ at Pontefract Racecourse – the Premier Enclosure, the Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure and the Picnic Enclosure.

Broadly speaking, the more expensive the enclosure, the better the facilities are. The more you spend, the closer you are to the Winning Post too!

But that’s not to say that every enclosure does not have its advantages!

Whichever area you choose, if you decide you’d like to ‘upgrade’ on the day, then please visit the transfer gates or the Raceday Office where you will simply pay the difference in price between the areas.

Picnic Enclosure

The most cost effective Enclosure is the Picnic Enclosure!

With a large expanse of grass, this area is normally packed out on Sunday race meetings with families enjoying a picnic, children’s rides, bouncy castles and the like!

It’s open on every raceday and is especially popular with racegoers who like to bring their car into the Course and park up next to the rails!

The fabulous Pavilion Cafe is a new addition to the Picnic Enclosure. With a range of hot and cold food and drinks, betting facility and toilets, it’s a great place for the family to spend a cost effective day at the races.

Accessibility Information

We have a number of facilities to assist those who may have accessibility problems including step free access to each of the enclosures at the Racecourse. We also have lifts available in the Main Stand and in the Dalby Stand giving access to all floors.

There are accessible toilets in all enclosures along with viewing ramps in every area.

Autism in Racing

We are also very pleased to announce that every race meeting in 2024 will be Autism Friendly racedays, making us the first Racecourse in the country to host Autism in Racing Racedays on every day.

We are thrilled to be working with Future Ticketing to host Autism Friendly racedays throughout the year. As part of our Autism Friendly racedays, the Racecourse and Future Ticketing will provide designated quiet and safe spaces for autistic Racegoers, or those who may have additional needs, including complimentary soft drinks and biscuits. In addition, there will be a dedicated sensory room, provided by Immersive, at every meeting.

Any racegoers wishing to apply for places at any Autism in Racing fixture can do so via the Autism in Racing Website: linked here.

We are also very proud to announce our racedays have been awarded the National Autistic Society’s Autism Friendly Award. We are committed to creating an autism-friendly environment & making sure our racedays are fully accessible to autistic racegoers and their families.
